Greg did a great job with the race and all who attended had fun and helped pave the way of a new type of race for the pros. After the race, we headed back over to the ABA Grands track for the Pro Spectacular. This is one of the best ABA tracks in a long time and the pro riders were excited about that. Jamie Staff who sits in 3rd overall in the ABA points chase was there too, riding a new Haro frame. It looks pretty sweet and we promised not to show it till after we get back to the USA next week. At the UCI MTB Worlds, it looked as if both Wade Bootes and Thomas Allier were going to make the finals, but a broken chain kept Thomas in the consi race with a 8th and one slip of a pedal cost Wade a shot at his 2nd MTB World Championship, instead taking 7th overall. X-Games Starting Gate The ESPN X-Games BMX Downhill event kicked off today with practice. The course is a little different from last year, with bigger jumps, its a lot smoother, and the gate is totally changed. The riders only get about 1 and 1/2 cranks out of the gate, and then it drops 4 feet down. The course is semi flat on the top half then goes into a steep downhill race. Riders have to use their brakes more than pedaling, as the speed gets so fast, guys were seen over jumping stuff. Alan Foster over jumped the last jump so far, he had 2 flats after rolling away from a near crash at flat ground. Tomorrow is the qualifying round and we will let you know what goes down. Word from the ABA race in Humble was that Randy Stumpfhauser, the 2002 UCI World Champion, won Pro Cruiser both days, as well as a 2nd and 4th in AA Pro. GT's Jamie Bestwick was looking to have the run of his life, trying for his 2nd Gravity Games Gold in a row, but a crash that separated his shoulder ended his night early. Next Dave Mirra crashed out on his first run, of the 2 run format, putting a lot of pressure on himself for a clean 2nd run. He would need to go big, as Mongoose's Simon Tabron pulled off a 900 in his run for the highest score of the night. Dave rode well, but just missed out on the gold. Other highlights of the day were Travis Pastrana and Mike Metzger pulling backflips in the Moto -X jumping contest qualifiers. It was Crazy! John
