NBL Christmas Classic - Columbus, Ohio

The 2006 NBL Season kicked off in pure classic NBL style this past week in the Columbus, Ohio Convention center with one of the favorite BMX races of all time- The NBL Christmas Classic. After being in Florida for the past few years, the Christmas Classic was brought back to Ohio and the arena atmosphere made for some exciting racing action. With a awesome built track with a 2 strait away pro section offered for the Elite riders, it was Classic Columbus racing action and the fans loved it. Besides the regular NBL elite national event, Day 1 offered the first North American UCI Continental ranking event. Here is how the Double A marketing riders finished up for the weekend:

Kyle Bennett picked up right where he left off at the end of the ABA season, out front and taking home a win in Columbus. On Day 1, Kyle was in both the UCI and NBL Elite Main events. Kyle finished up 4th in NBL Elite and 7th in the UCI race. Sunday, things were back to normal, as it was Elite Pro and Pro Open. In the Elite main, Kyle started things off by winning the Sun Ringle Hole shot award, on his way to a huge Elite men's win. Kyle also was in the Pro Open main event, where he finished up 7th. Kyle's sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, Answer, Kenda, Sun Ringle, UGP, Thomson, S & M bars, ATI, Shimano, Profile, Powerbar, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.

Randy Stumpfhauser wants to capture the NBL #1 Pro title back and if you watched him race this past weekend, you know he is serious. Randy lead almost every lap through out the weekend, pulling away from riders and doing it with style. On Day 1, Stumpy blasted out of the gate in the Elite main and was gone, no one was even close. In the UCI Elite main, he was out front, but cased the last jump before the 1st turn and slipped back to 6th. On Day 2, Randy was out for the win again, but a crash kept him from finishing top 3 and put him back to 8th.
Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Hyundai, ODI, Kenda, Tangent, Sun Rims, Bombshell, Fly Racing, Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, OGIO, Tool Shed, SDG, Easton, S & M, Cyto Max, and BMXpros.com.

Cristian Becerine made his first USA appearance for his new sponsor, Free Agent in Ohio. Cristian has signed a 3 year deal with Free Agent and along with Kyle and Dale Holmes, will make up one of the strongest Pro teams in BMX. On day 2, Cristian was in the Elite men's main event, and finished up 4th for the day. Cristian's Sponsors include: Free Agent, Answer, Kenda, THE, Vigor Helmets, Oakley, Sun Ringle, Shimano, Tool Shed, Powerbar, BMXpros.com, OGIO, Cyto Sport/Cyto Max, and Thomson Seat Posts.

Brandon Meadows went to the NBL Christmas Classic as his last race for Specialized and ready for a new 2006 season with a new team. On Day 1, it was evident that Brandon has been spending a lot of time on his bike, even with the birth of his daughter just 3 weeks ago. Brandon lead a lot of laps and made the Elite men's main event. A bad gate caused him to finish up 8th for the day. On day 2, Brandon was again out front a lot and took the hole shot in the Elite men's semi. Going into the first turn, he bumped bars with another rider as he was going up a jump and this caused him be throw into the bottom of turn one. Brandon suffered a broken femur and had to have surgery just hours after the crash. I spoke with Brandon on Thursday night after the surgery and he was doing ok and wanted to thank all that had made it by the hospital and called to wish him well. Brandon will be back in top form after this tragic injury, and once again winning Pro main events. Brandon's sponsors include: Specialized, Fly Racing, Tangent, Thomson, Shimano, Cyto Max, Sun Ringle, Tool Shed, Powerbar, OGIO, and BMXpros.com
