Race
Day 5- Stumpfhauser, Leveque, and Bootes all make the elite Pro men's
final.

The
riders get ready for the Pro Mens Elite Main Event
At
one of the toughest UCI Worlds competition in years, Randy Stumpfhauser,
Christophe Leveque, and Wade Bootes all made it through the moto's,
1/8 th, 1/4's, 1/2's, into the Elite Men's Finial. When the gate slammed
down, it looked as if Stumpy was going to take home another World title,
but Kyle Bennit was just a bit stronger and took over the lead spot.
Christophe was looking good as well, but was off just a bit going into
the first turn, where he held onto a 5th for the day. Wade just was
able to get around the mess in the first turn as well, but didn't fair
as well as the rest, putting him in 7th for the day. Overall, it was
a great race, a solid main event, and an awesome finish to a weeks worth
of practice and hype.

Randy
is the new UCI World Ranked #1 Rider in BMX
The 2nd place finish gave Randy Stumpfhauser enough points to take home
the World Ranking of #1 for 2003, to go along with his UCI World Cruiser
title. This is an year overall title that the UCI gives to a rider,
and is compiled by points won at certain UCI and NBL races through out
the year.

Race
day 4 - Stumpy wins the UCI Worlds in Cruiser!

This
is the main event, In the 2nd turn, where Randy destroyed the Elite
Cruiser main after an explosive first strait away pull. The first strait
was tight, but Randy popped out ahead of all of the other riders, just
into the first turn.

Stumpy
makes it 2 in a row with the titles, and looks to add one more come
Sunday. Stumpy was flying all day, with a slight scare in the semi,
as he spun his tire on the staring gate, putting him in 5th for the
first part of the race. Randy, cool and calm, made his way back up to
top 3 by the end of the next strait on his way to the main event.
In
other race news, Christophe Leveque was looking fast, winning
all his moto's, but a bad gate in the 1/4 cost him a spot in the main.
Jason Richardson was looking good as well, but a crash in the first
turn in the semi ended his night. We got to see Jamie Staff, but it
was on the sports channel here, with the UCI track world cup on tv.
Jamie Won the match sprint race at the Mexico World Cup, and we were
stoked to see it on here.
Elite

Stumpfhauser 2nd Michal Prokop 3rd Luke Madill- the rest of the riders
were Javier Colombo, Roger Rinderknecht, Lukas Tamme, Jamie Gray, and
Deivlim Baltazar.
Race
Day 3 - Wednesday night Pro race and Jumping contest.

Things
are a lot better here, as the track is riding super well and the organizers
have worked out a lot of the kinks, keeping the racing a bit slow. Today
was practice by country and then for the Elite riders. After a few hours
of practice, there was a special race, for the top 4 riders in the 4
selected UCI contents - USA, Australia, Europe, and South America. 16
riders rode 4 at a time in the first 2 rounds, then 3 in a moto, then
2 in a race, winding down to the top 4 riders. Wade Bootes and Randy
Stumpfhauser were both in the finials, as Wade placed 4th for the night
in the A Final and Randy placed 6th in the B Final. The racing was awesome,
and Kyle Bennit of the USA won the event, with Robert De Wilde taking
2nd, and Mehdi Remili 3rd.

Next
was a King of Dirt jumping contest, where Andre Ellison of the USA riding
for Hyundai/GT looked to be the top pick as the winner, where he was
the top qualifier. Once the contest started, it was a different story,
as Andre threw in a dead sailor in his first run, and crashing a backflip
tail whip, throwing him back to 9th for the night overall. This was
bar far a great night of competition here, and we cant wait till Friday
for the 24" race in Elite and Sunday for the 20" race.

Day
1 & 2
After
a disappointing day at the race site, I didn't take one race picture.
This weekends before pre race was all about making money. First off,
you had to pay $17.50 to get in to watch the race, and that is just
for the first day, where in 8 hours of racing, they only ran the first
2 moto's only. All 185 of them. Talk about slow. Next, it is a hassle
to get into the arena with your bike, as it is a special air chamber
controlled roof, and you cant have an open doorway, as too much air
pressure will get out and the roof will deflate. Get it? I don't either.
dumb idea.
After
finally getting in, they run the practice almost as slow as the race,
with one gate on the track at a time, really making it a long wait.
After dealing with all that, at the least, this has to be the best Worlds
track in a long time. as it is very technical. Finally On Sunday night,
they ran the Pro finals, where Thomas Allier took the hole shot and
won, with Randy Stumpfhauser placing 4th for the night.
As
an after race calibration, Randy and his wife went to the Zoo and Randy
picked up a few new fans.

I
did get a few shots of Andre Ellison taking some time off his race bike
and on his dirt jumping bike, getting ready for the jumping contest
on Wednesday night by pulling of some impressive wall rides in downtown
Perth.

So
it looks like things will be a lot better starting on Wednesday, once
the UCI will be running the races. We will have a report on the Wednesday
night events, consisting of the King of Dirt competition and the Redbull
Championship race.
