BMX Race Report
ABA Midwest Nationals Rockford, Illinois
Round
9 of the 2006 ABA Pro series national events was held this past weekend
at the Rockford BMX track. Rockford is known as one of the smoothest
and fastest tracks on the national tour and is one of the best tracks
in the nation. A purse power track, Rockford showcases the riders that
have been putting in the time training. Hot and humid conditions met
the riders smack on at the start of the race weekend on Saturday, and
Sunday was an all day rain laden race day. Both days had exciting race
action from the Double A Marketing pros who were in attendance. Here
is how Kyle Bennett and Randy Stumpfhauser finished up the weekend:
Kyle Bennett has become the most dominant AA Pro in
the past month. Kicking things off last weekend with 2 Elite Pro wins
in Evansville, Kyle backed it up with another 2 huge AA Pro wins at
the Rock. On Saturday, Kyle won all 3 AA Pro main events, pulling every
AA Pro in Rockford. Kyle had huge leads and his trademarked effortless
looking riding style had all the pros scratching their heads. On Sunday,
the rain forced the ABA to change to 1 main event for the AA Pro, but
Kyle didn't change his style, with another impressive AA main event
win. It looks like all the hard work and determination after Kyle's
knee surgery has paid off, as he now looks to be very close to taking
over the Pro points lead in both the ABA and NBL. Kyle's sponsors include
Free Agent, KHS, Fly Racing, Bombshell F1 Fork, Sun Rims, Shimano, UGP,
Kenda, Thomson, Utopia Eyewear, S & M bars, ODI, ORP, OGIO, Powerbar,
Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.
Randy Stumpfhauser has never raced Rockford as a AA
Pro. Randy usually volunteers a week during each summer to be a camp
consular near his home and it seems to always fall on the Rockford weekend.
This year it didn't and massive amount of Stumpy fans, as well as Randy
were happy that it did not. On Saturday, Randy was one of the fastest
looking riders all day and when the main events came, he didn't slow
down. In AA Pro, Randy was one of the few riders to get close to Kyle's
back wheel and finished up 2nd overall. In Pro Open, Randy took the
lead from the gate and didn't have any one contest him as he took the
win wire to wire. Sunday wasn't as good for Stumpy, as he rode a bit
cautious in the AA semi in the slick conditions and missed the cut.
Don't fret Stumpy fans, he will be back in the winners circle soon,
and looks towards the NBL South Park, PA National and UCI event in 2
weeks to do so. Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Kenda, ODI, Tangent,
Sun Rims, Bombshell, Fly Racing, Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, OGIO, X
Balm, Tool Shed, SDG, SRAM, Easton, S & M Bars, Cyto Sport, and
BMXpros.com.
