ABA Winter Nationals Phoenix, AZ

Round 5 of the 2007 ABA Pro Series tour took place this past weekend in Phoenix, Arizona at the world famous Black Mountain BMX track. The Winter nationals at the Black Mountain track, quite different than in years past, is still one of the fastest and is one of the most anticipated events of the year. With rain looming over the Phoenix area on Thursday and Friday, it was a near disaster for the super fast track, but the Winter Nationals dodged a mudfest and the sun shined bright on the ABA come race time on Saturday. Here is how the guys finished up:

Randy Stumpfhauser was simply amazing at the Winter nationals. On Saturday, well, all we really need to say is that Randy won all 3 AA Pro Main events. Flat out faster than anyone else, Stumpy was able to dodge what he called "the track snakes" that were out in force, causing a ton of crashed and win AA Pro, not only on Saturday but on Sunday as well. Sunday was just like the day before with another overall win in AA Pro and another great ABA score. Look for Randy to continue on winning this weekend in Sarasota, Florida at the NBL UCI North American Round. Brandon Meadows impressed the Phoenix crowd with his impressive racing this weekend. On Saturday, after just missing out on the AA Pro main, he came back and smoked the entire Pro Open field with a huge win. On Sunday, Brandon came back and was ready for both main events. A crash in the 2nd main would hold Brandon to 4th overall for the day in AA Pro, but his riding was much more impressive than 4th. Cristian Becerine was unable to miss the track snakes that Randy mentioned, as he made all 4 main events but had crashed in each of them. Looking like one of the few riders would give Randy a run for his money in the win, Cristian had extremely bad luck and was caught up in a slew of crashes. Cristian would leave Phoenix with a 7th and 8th in AA Pro and 2 8th in Pro Open, but he will be ready for next weekends NBL event. Joey Bradford was going extremely fast this past weekend and A pro was one of the biggest classes at the Winter nationals. After a rough week of being in Phoenix, Joey was ready to get on the track and race, and he did a great job of that. On Saturday, Joey was in the main event and finished up 3rd overall. On Sunday, Joey took it up a notch and was up for the overall win, but just missed out and would finish up 2nd overall.
