November 25th - Day 1 event Report

As the gates opened today for Practice for the ABA Grand Nationals, it was apparent that things would be different for this years event. One look at the track would tell you that the ABA did a great job of mixing things up from the normal track layout. The track layout features a U Within a U layout, with a entire strait way Pro Section Between the track design and the jumps that lined the track, from one look, it seemed to be the best track in years. Things changed once we got on the track, as unfortunate as it sounds, the dirt was soft and wet and was not packing well at all. Practice day would go off as planned, but the track was just not fun to ride and brought back flashbacks of the Del Mar track. The reason for the wet track was bad weather in the Tulsa Area for the past 2 weeks and the dirt for the track is stored outside. Well the ABA did there best to rework the track just minutes after the full day of practice ended on Thursday night, and worked all night to get the track in better condition. Friday was a big day, as it would kick off the racing action with the ABA Race of Champions and the Friday night Pro Spectacular and Nag 5 Challenge.

Day 2 of the ABA Grands program went off today, and the ABA did a great job of working on the track overnight. The track still as a lot of soft spots, but is a lot better and more fun to ride. It was still a huge effort for the Pros to ride a full lap at top speed, but the early on race action was exciting. For the Pros, they would have to race early on in the day during the race of Champions and qualify for the semi and main events that are put on during the special event at night, the Pro Spectacular. The Double A Marketing riders that raced were Randy Stumpfhauser, Kyle Bennett, and Christophe Leveque. Yes, you read that correct, Christophe made his return to racing and by winning his 2nd Moto today, he let everyone know that he is back and ready to mix it up in AA Pro. All 3 riders qualified for the semi event that will take place tonight and we will update once the event is over with.

Well we just got back from the race and it was kinda crazy. Leveque, Stumpfhauser were in the same semi, and Christophe holeshotted. Going into the 1st turn, Robert De Wilde passed him and Christophe settled into 2nd. Just as the riders entered the turn, Robert went wide, causing Christophe to have to slow down and not be able to hit the Pro section. While Christophe railed the non pro Section, Stumpy went for it in 3rd behind Mike Day, but Day shut down before the Pro jump, causing Randy to have to swerve out of the way and go off the track. Both him and Leveque made it back up to 5th and 6th, but didn't transfer. Kyle was in the other Semi and easily made it onto the main.

When the guys lined up for the main event and the gate dropped, Kyle took off and was untouchable. Chalk up another win and a ROC #1 for Kyle Bennett.

Tomorrow starts with the 1st 2 rounds of Moto's. We updated you on the happenings after the day is over.

ABA Grand Nationals Tulsa, Oklahoma

Stumpy wins the ABA #1 Pro Cruiser Title

This weekend, the Double A Marketing riders came to the ABA Grands to end the season of BMX racing off on a high note, and all of the guys did just that with a great weekend of racing in Tulsa. The Grands is always the biggest ABA National of the year, and with 500 motos, riders from all over the world, and the best AA Pros in BMX today, it would be one of the hardest events to make the main event at. The track was plagued with wet dirt due to bad weather in the Tulsa area for the past few weeks, but the ABA did their best to make the track race ready for the Pro and amateur riders to go after one of the most prestigious titles in BMX racing, ABA #1. Here is how the Double A Marketing riders finished up in the main events.

Randy Stumpfhauser rules the Pro Cruiser Class in BMX racing. For the last 3 years Randy has won the Pro Cruiser title in Both ABA and NBL. as well as the UCI World Championships. Entering into the ABA Grands, Randy was going for 4 Pro titles in a row, a feat that has never been done in the Class. Randy was also had a chance to win the AA Pro #1 plate, but failing to make it out of the motos ended his run for the 2nd ABA title of 2004. Randy looks to add a ABA #1 AA Pro title to his long list of Pro titles in 2005! Randy's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Hyundai, ODI, IRC Tires, Shimano, Fox Racing, Smith, Sun Ringle, Bombshell Forks, AC, Thomson, Powerbar, CTI Knee Braces, Tool Shed, Marwi, SDG, FSA Headsets, S & M, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com

Christophe Leveque has had a rough past 2 seasons. After getting over major back surgery, Christophe came back last summer and returned for BMX racing for 3 months with some impressive results. Then last October, after badly breaking his foot, he once again had to sit out almost 13 months with another injury. Well the injuries are gone and the results are going to start being tabulated once again, as Christophe is back. Back in a big way too, as he was in the AA Pro main at the Grands. Caulk him up with a 7th overall, but more importantly, a clean bill of health and his return to the AA Pro Class. Welcome Back! Christophe's sponsors include GT Bicycles, Hyundai, ODI, IRC Tires, Shimano, Fox Racing, Tangent, SDG, Smith, Sun Ringle, Thomson, Marwi, FSA Headsets, S & M, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com

Kyle Bennett also had a chance of winning the ABA #1 Pro title, but it would lie in the hands of a few other riders and how they would finish up for the day. Once the dust settled after the AA Pro main, Kyle wound up 6th place for the day and just 2 sports shy of ABA National #1. Kyle caps off another great season, to add a #3 Pro plate with his NBL #1 title. Kyle's sponsors include Free Agent, KHS, Answer, Sun Ringle, UGP, Truvativ, Velo, Vans, S&M bars, ATI, Shimano, Profile, Powerbar, Smith, Cyto Sport, and BMXpros.com.

Cristian Becerine rode so strong at the ABA Grands, but by his result of a 5th in Pro Open didn't do the way he rode justice. Cristian would have been in the AA Pro main as well, but his chain coming off in the last turn in the semi kept him out of the toughest main event the ABA has to offer. Cristian was looking to keep his Pro Open win streak going, but it just didn't happen. Either way, once again, he showed just how good of a rider he is. Cristian's sponsors include Crupi, O'Neal, Answer, UGP, ODI, Sun Ringle, Marwi, Shimano, Tool Shed, Powerbar, BMXpros.com, Cyto Sport, and Thomson Seat Posts.
