UCI
BMX Downhill Supercross Race
Woodward
Camp East, Woodward, PA
For
2003. The UCI has added a new format to its International program
by adding a Downhill BMX race, with a 3 year plan for a Supercross
BMX Downhill international race series. On the same track that the
2002 ESPN X-Games were held, with a few modifications, the UCI will
hold one of the most memorable races in USA BMX history. Riders from
all over the world are here to take on one of the biggest BMX tracks
ever built. With the huge jumps and giant turns, it will once again
make for some great racing action. All of the race action will be
able to be seen on TV, as this race is going to be shown on the new"Fuel
Network".
Here
are the day by day updates-
Saturday-
Stumpy
I
cant believe it, but the crew at Woodward did the most amazing job
today, as they got the track rideable. When the riders went out to
the track today, it was super muddy, as the covers had blown off during
the night. The NBL and UCI Crew once again did an amazing job, and
by 4 pm, had the lower part of the track fully rideable. Then as the
50 or so riders practiced, the crew kept getting the rest of the track
in shape, and by 6:30 pm Wade and Randy, along with a few other riders
were doing the entire track. The new schedule will be practice at
8:30am tomorrow, for 1.5 hours, then the time trail, then the racing
action. It should get over by 1pm or so, but it not only be an amazing
day of racing, but an amazing feat by the UCI, the NBL, and the riders,
as they stuck in to get this historical race finished.
Bootes
Friday-
Well,
Guess what? The big bad Hurricane that was to come through here and
tear up Pennsylvania, didn't hit too bad in the State College/Woodward
area, but it did rain all day and make it impossible for the Pros
to ride the Woodward Downhill track. There was a lot of nothing to
do today, except for some of the Pro's who were staying at Woodward
got to ride the ramps. For some of us, who stayed in State College,
(Stumpy, Bootes, and John Purse) we got to catch up on TV, E-mail,
and sleep. We did try to go to the local bike shop to do some promotions,
but they didn't have any BMX bikes, so we left. After trying to get
the scoop all day, We did just get word that the track got pretty
wet today and it will be late in the day before it will be rideable,
if it does stop raining. There is a 10% chance of rain tomorrow. So
as of right now, the race is still on, and they will try to get it
all done tomorrow, as many of the Pros had planned on leaving on Sunday
morning. We will keep you posted.
Thursday-
Showed
up at the track to see the best changes possible to it since the X-Games
to make it more BMX race style. All of the riders that saw it though
it was awesome. Too bad they didn't get to ride it. Today was to be
practice for the race, but due to Hurricane Isabelle, everything has
been canceled for today. Looks like it will be raining all day tomorrow
as well, but Saturday is to be sunny, so it could all go down on then.
We will keep you updated.
